“As nurses, we have a unique understanding of patients as a part of families, communities and workplaces. When we develop a deep level of insight regarding these contexts, it makes a difference in a patient’s ability to get – and stay – well. Nurses care for patients from prevention and wellness and at each stage of illness, through to end-of-life care. The job of a nurse researcher is to continuously explore how to do this best. Nurse researchers look at questions such as when and how to prevent disease.  And, if it can’t be prevented, we look at how we can enhance recovery. If recovery is not an option, the questions surround how to best help patients and families make decisions to ensure a peaceful and dignified end of life.”

Renu Singh Renu Singh, M.S., Senior Associate Dean of Finance and Administration

Daryl Sharp

Daryl Sharp, Ph.D., P.M.H.C.N.S.-B.C., N.P.P., Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity

“Nursing is a team sport…I think the best nurses are those who are able to partner with their patients and their colleagues to help people achieve their health goals. Establishing, cultivating and tending those diverse partnerships, and developing strong, respectful relationships that truly bring out the best in one another, is the best part of nursing to me.  I am dedicated to supporting faculty toward their career goals within the context of the School’s strategic plan while addressing diversity issues, strengthening inclusiveness and facilitating open communication.”
