Message from the Master's Program Director

Craig SellersWelcome to the Leadership in Health Care Systems Programs at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. We offer unique educational opportunities for experienced professionals interested in playing a pivotal role in leading health care in the 21st century.   Our programs are grounded in a values driven curriculum, encompassing health care management, leadership, research and practice.  Our courses are based in theoretical underpinnings but with great emphasis on practical skills, effective strategies and action-oriented applications that can be immediately translated to diverse health care settings. Our goal is to advance the leadership talent of experienced professionals committed to making real progress in addressing the enormous challenges we are facing in health care.  The need for leadership in health care has never been greater and our graduates will be well positioned to meet that challenge.

The Masters in Nursing Education Program offers a unique, interdisciplinary curriculum specifically focused on preparing registered nurses for positions in nursing schools, professional development and patient education.  Designed for working nurses, it blends classroom and online instruction with opportunities to work with experienced educators to plan courses, design curriculum, and learn proven ways to evaluate learning and engage students.

The Leadership in Health Care Systems Program has three educational options, each leading to a masters degree in a specialty area. Our Health Care Organization Management and Leadership option is an interdisciplinary program intended for professionals from across disciplines (nursing, pharmacy, social work, medicine, for example) and from a variety of health care organizations seeking to expand their competence in organizational stewardship and transformational leadership.

The Clinical Nurse Leader Program option is only for nurses. This program is for experienced nurses who are ready to take the next step in advancing their careers and promoting quality and safety in health care.

I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our programs. If you are contemplating taking your career to the next level, contact us. We welcome the opportunity to meet and talk with you.
