Where We Are

About Us

Community Service

The School of Nursing has a longstanding commitment to community service.  We work with community partners to identify, plan, and provide much needed research, education, and service.

We define “community” broadly.  We have actively partnered with other countries.  For instance, the School is partnering with the Medical Center to develop health clinics in remote areas of Honduras, staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses.  And, along with the rest of our institution, we took positive steps to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) recently took an inventory of their many community projects.  They identified 159 local community health research projects with over $39 million in funding and more than 70 department-led outreach initiatives.  They have now established a Community Health Executive Committee to create a five-year strategic plan to advance the community health mission of the URMC.
