Leadership Activities
Fuld Scholars are expected to participate in selected leadership activities. These activities include:
- Attending the Fuld Leadership Lecture Series throughout the year; and
- Participating in selected research activity with a nursing faculty mentor.
The Fuld Lecture series offers students and faculty the chance to hear about cutting edge nursing research in a short forum, followed by the opportunity to ask questions of the investigator. Examples include:
- The research of Marie Flannery, PhD, Assistant Professor of Nursing. Dr. Flannery’s study involves phone calls to oncology patients by nurse practitioners, for follow-up and guidance.
- A showcase of our students who participated in the “ACT II” project (Achieving Competence Today). This grant is a major national initiative to integrate quality content into Graduate Medical & Nursing Education. The program marries educational programs with quality improvement leadership in Academic Health Centers. Students design a quality improvement project and health centers commit to implement one of them. We are one of five recipients of a safety and quality-oriented ACT grant sponsored by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Association of Medical Colleges, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Funded Partnership for Quality Education.
Participation in Faculty Research Projects
Student interests, skills, and availability are matched with available research initiatives within the School of Nursing and the University. Commitments may involve approximately 40 hours over the academic year. For example, students with an interest in adolescent health or behavior risk reduction can be matched to a faculty member who is principal investigator on a National Institute of Health funded longitudinal HIV prevention intervention study for adolescent girls
