Fuld Scholar Programs
Fuld Scholar Leadership Activities
The University of Rochester School of Nursing Fuld Scholar Programs are made possible by a generous gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust, HSBC Bank USA, Trustee, the nation's largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education. Recognizing nursing's indispensable role in patient care, the growing nursing shortage, and the need to attract more people to the field, the Fuld grant affords outstanding students the opportunity to pursue nursing degrees by providing all important scholarship support.
Fuld scholarship support is available to students accepted into the School's Accelerated Bachelor's or Master's Programs for Non-Nurses or the dual degree Master's and PhD Program, who demonstrate academic strength, leadership, and a strong commitment to service in the field of nursing. Fuld scholarship support has been instrumental to the success and rapid growth of the School's innovative new curricula. The number of qualified applicants has far exceeded all expectations and resulted in the launch of the first ever nursing capital campaign to raise funding for the addition of a new education wing on Helen Wood Hall. The new wing has enabled the School to admit more students at a time when the profession needs them the most.
The Fuld Scholar Program reflects the core values and philosophy of the School of Nursing's Unification Model. Established in 1972 and widely copied since throughout the country, under the leadership of Dr. Loretta Ford, the Unification Model integrated nursing practice, education and research for the first time. This approach resulted in increased job satisfaction, enabled a more skilled, professional workforce, and elevated respect for nursing within the health care system, ultimately resulting in improved patient care. In keeping with this philosophy, Fuld Scholars are involved in special seminars, applied research projects and other learning experiences designed to prepare them to serve as dynamic leaders in the field, bringing the most up to date knowledge and skills to bear on some of society's most complex health problems.
