Employer-Sponsored Tuition Benefits and Waivers

Many hospitals/medical facilities offer a variety of educational benefits to nurses. Please check with the Human Resources office at your place of employment for information on their policies.

Forms requiring a signature from a school official confirming student status, enrollment dates, etc., should be brought to the Registrar’s Office (HWH 1-126) for signature. The Registrar forwards the completed form to the appropriate institution.

Lucretia H. Richter Nursing Scholarship Award

$1,000 (four awards annually)

Students must be completing their BS or MS degree, show a commitment to nursing, faculty recommendation and financial need. Applications are available in Helen Wood Hall 1-126, Office of Student Affairs. Send an email (sonadmissions@urmc.rochester.edu) or call  (585-275-2375).

New York State Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarships

$1,000 – $5,000/year

Priority given to economically disadvantaged or historically underrepresented minority undergraduate and graduate students studying in 24 different professions at NYS schools.

$1,000 – $10,000

Students who demonstrate leadership in community activities and school activities and who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in health-related fields.

Dante Scholarship

Varies

The Italian Women’s Civic Club funds and administers the Dante Scholarship Program, a series of four endowed scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study at the several Rochester colleges including the University of Rochester. The mission of the Club today focuses on supporting higher education opportunities for young adults of Italian ancestry.
Eligibility Criteria:

  • Have academic standing as a sophomore or junior in an undergraduate degree program; or a senior accepted into a graduate degree program; or a full-time graduate student enrolled in a master’s level or doctoral program at the University of Rochester. 

  • Demonstrate and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

  • Be a legal resident or native of the Greater Rochester Area, including Monroe, Orleans, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, and Genesee counties. 

  • Have some Italian heritage and be available and willing to attend the Dante Scholarship Ball and participate in one IWCC event that celebrates Italian American heritage.

New York State Tuition Assistance (TAP)

Up to $5,000/year for undergraduate students and up to $575/year for graduate students

State grant awarded to New York State residents who are matriculated in New York State schools on a full-time basis. Must be a New York State resident, matriculated in an accepted program, and enrolled full-time. Need-based grant.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Maintenance grant of $20,000. Tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended.

Each year up to 2 years the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended. Graduate student in any professional field or scholarly discipline in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences.

Loans

Aid is available through federal as well as alternative loans through third party private lenders. You will need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) (forms for the next school year are available each January 1). You will also have to file the University of Rochester Verification Statement for either dependent or independent students. If you were born prior to January 1, 1981 you will be considered independent. If you were born after this date you will be considered a dependent student and you will have to file your parents' income and asset information on the FAFSA. You must submit appropriate copies of tax returns and W-2s with the University of Rochester Verification Statement.
