Many hospitals/medical facilities offer a variety of educational benefits to nurses. Please check with the Human Resources office at your place of employment for information on their policy.

Forms requiring a signature from a School official confirming student status, enrollment dates, etc. should be brought to the Registrar’s Office (HWH 1-126) for signature. The Registrar forwards the completed form to the appropriate institution.

Scholarships and Grants


Grants are available for full or part time study for students in the RN to BS program. Contact the Office of Student Affairs. E-mail them at sonadmissions@urmc.rochester.edu or call (585)275-2375 for a complete listing of grants, eligibility requirements and application forms. Generally these grants cover tuition costs not covered by employer-based tuition benefits or other sources. For full time students financial aid awards are made by the UR Financial Aid Office. Baccalaureate students receive information directly from the Financial Aid Office about financial aid awards and re-application materials to be submitted on a yearly basis for continued funding. Any problems with financial aid awards, application materials, etc. should be forwarded to the Office of Financial Aid in Meliora Hall on River Campus. If problems are not satisfactorily resolved, please notify the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Notices about opportunities for other financial aid (e.g. Special nursing grants) may be obtained from the Administrative Assistant for Student Affairs, Room 1W126 in Helen Wood Hall, (585)275-2375. In addition, any other financial aid opportunities that become available will be reproduced and distributed directly to students. Loan Deferment requests should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

There is an endowment scholarship available for the RN to BS Completion Program only of up to 50% tuition reduction for Registered Nurses.  Part I and II must be completed for first time applicants and Part II only should be completed thereafter. Part I formPart II form.

HRSA- Health Resources and Services Administration- U.S. Department of Health and Human Services tuition and fees, as well as a $1,200/ month stipend

Through this program, nursing school students can receive scholarships to pay for their tuition and fees,
as well as a $1,200/ month stipend. Upon graduation, these nurses must work full-time in a facility deemed to have a critical shortage of nurses - for at least 2 years (some will have a longer service commitment.

U.S. citizens or nationals (permanent residents are not eligible), enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited school of nursing in a professional registered nurse program (baccalaureate, graduate, associate degree, or diploma), free from any Federal judgment liens, free from existing service commitments, not in default of any Federal debt.

Kaiser Permanente-College to Caring Program $8000.00 scholarship for each year attending nursing school

This scholarship offers funds to students who are juniors or seniors in college pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. College to Caring (C2C) scholars will also receive a $2000.00 stipend for summer work study program at Kaiser Permanente.

The eligibility requirements are:
Must be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent, Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, residing in Northern California, Must be studying full-time in the United States or Puerto Rico, Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, Must demonstrate financial need, Must be a rising junior or senior in college pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing for 2007-2008 academic year.

The American Red Cross Jane Delano Society Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 in order to advance nursing as a career option and to promote the involvement of young nurses in the Red Cross.

Eligibility:
Must have contributed volunteer service in the Red Cross unit during the past 5 years
Current enrollment in an Associated Degree, Diploma or Baccalaureate program preparing students for Registered Nursing Licensure or an RN to BSN completion program
Must have at least one semester or quarter left before graduation.

Lucretia H. Richter Nursing Scholarship award

$1,000 (four awards annually)

Talbots Charitable Foundation Women's Scholarship Fund Program

$10,000 (five awards annually)
$1,000 (fifty awards annually)

For the RN to BS Completion Program only.
This fund annually awards $100,000 in college scholarships to outstanding women seeking a bachelor's or associate's degree later in life.  Since its inception in 1997, the fund has awarded college scholarships to 440 women, ranging in age from their late 20s to their early 60s. Eligible applicants must be women currently residing in  the U.S. who earned a high school diploma or GED at least  ten years ago; are currently seeking a degree from an  accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school; and have at least two full-time semesters or twenty-four credits remaining to complete their undergraduate degree.  Applications for the scholarship are available at all at Talbots U.S. stores and can also be downloaded online at the Talbots web site.

Professional Nurses Network, Campus RN/AACN Nursing Scholarship Fund

$2,500 (six awards annually)

Established in April 2003, this scholarship program supports students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration will be given to students Enrolled in a master's or doctoral program with the goal of pursuing a nursing faculty career; Completing an RN to baccalaureate program (BSN); or Enrolled in an accelerated baccalaureate or master's degree nursing program. American Legion Scholarship
The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Nursing Scholarship Fund

$2500

Established to assist registered nurses (RN) with advanced preparation for positions in supervision, administration or teaching. Students are to have prospects of being employed in specific positions in hospitals, clinics or health departments on completion of their education and the position must have a full-time and direct relationship to lung and respiratory control.  Full details may be secured from the local Eight and Forty Scholarship Chairman or The American Legion Education Program, Attn: Eight and Forty Scholarships, PO Box 1055, Indianapolis, IN 46206.

AORN Foundation - Zimmer Chapter RNFA Grants

$500 (four awards annually)

Through a generous donation by CBPN, four scholarships are available to nurses who plan to enroll in a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) educational program. Consideration will be given to applicants who can demonstrate completion of an RNFA program during the funding period. Dante Scholarship

Varies

The Italian Women’s Civic Club funds and administers the Dante Scholarship Program, a series of four endowed scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study at the several Rochester colleges including the University of Rochester. The mission of the Club today focuses on supporting higher education opportunities for young adults of Italian ancestry.
Eligibility Criteria:

  • Have academic standing as a sophomore or junior in an undergraduate degree program; or a senior accepted into a graduate degree program; or a full-time graduate student enrolled in a master’s level or doctoral program at the University of Rochester. 

  • Demonstrate and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

  • Be a legal resident or native of the Greater Rochester Area, including Monroe, Orleans, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, and Genesee counties. 

  • Have some Italian heritage and be available and willing to attend the Dante Scholarship Ball and participate in one IWCC event that celebrates Italian American heritage.

State grant awarded to New York State residents who are matriculated in New York State schools on a full-time basis. Must be a New York State resident, matriculated in an accepted program, and enrolled full-time. Need-based grant.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Maintenance grant of $20,000. Tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the US graduate program attended.

Each year up to 2 years the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the US graduate program attended. Graduate student in any professional field or scholarly discipline in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences.

Loans

Aid is available through federal as well as alternative loans through third party private lenders. You will need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) (forms for the next school year are available each January 1). You will also have to file the University of Rochester Verification Statement for either dependent or independent students. If you were born prior to January 1, 1981 you will be considered independent. If you were born after this date you will be considered a dependent student and you will have to file your parents' income and asset information on the FAFSA. You must submit appropriate copies of tax returns and W-2's with the University of Rochester Verification Statement.
