Diversity Enhancement Award
The Mary Dombeck Diversity Enhancement Award is an annual award designed to recognize individuals that have demonstrated a significant commitment to enhancing diversity at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. These individuals have helped to advance the creation and implementation of University-wide Diversity and Inclusiveness Action Plans. Someone who actively supports diversity and inclusiveness initiatives; exhibits respect, appreciation and value for each individual; demonstrates leadership qualities that foster an inclusive environment; promotes educational programs that enhance diversity and inclusiveness.
The 2009 Mary Dombeck Diversity Enhancement Faculty Member of the Year: Christina Koulouglioti
The nominator for this year’s recipient of The Mary Dombeck Diversity Enhancement Faculty Award, noted her qualities of respect, appreciation and valuing of all persons. She actively supports the diversity initiative in the SON and co-teaches the cultural diversity course. She demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and working tirelessly on the Winter Celebration. Her contributions in supporting, promoting and demonstrating the characteristics of diversity are recognized and appreciated.
The 2009 Mary Dombeck Diversity Enhancement Staff Member of the Year: Eva Schiavenato
Awarded to this staff member for the respect and appreciation she exhibits her colleagues. She works tirelessly to promote the understanding and appreciation of new ideas, different cultures and practices. She most recently leant her expertise and abundant energy to her leadership role in organizing the first SON diversity event “Celebrate Us Celebrate You”.
She is described by others as enthusiastic, dedicated to promoting diversity and contagiously energetic…in fact, the term “spark plug” has been used to describe her ability to motivate people into action. She is also described as an individual with a passion for diversity and inclusiveness.
