Cerc Facilities

The CERC operates and provides support for the following facilities for instructional and educational use.

CERC Computer Lab (1W216)

This lab contains 22 IBM compatible Pentium 4 multimedia workstations with access to the SON network. Students can perform a variety of activities from these stations including word processing, accessing internet and email, and utilizing several computer-based instructional software programs. Statistical software and the Ovid medical literature database allow students of all levels to gain valuable research experience. Powerpoint graphics software is available for preparing class presentations and a variety of review programs allow students to test their knowledge in areas ranging from anatomy and cardiac care skills to general nursing knowledge require for nursing licensing. In addition, nursing students can use the lab daily to complete assignments. An instructor’s lecturn with laptop, LCD projector, a large screen, and a VCR allow this lab to be used for classes and computer training.

The door to the Lab remains accessible by swipe. Students are encouraged to stop by the Lab to make sure their cards are active during CERC hours.

For conditions regarding the use of the Computer Lab, please review the CERC Computer Lab Policy.

Viewing Room (1W216)

The Viewing Room contains six additional computer workstations like those in the Computer Lab along side two viewing stations, comprised of TVs with DVD/VHS players for purposes utilizing CERC media as independent learning supplements. The Viewing Room may only be accessed during CERC hours. Conditions of Viewing Room use may be found at the link above.

Nursing Skills Labs (1W307 and 1W309)

The Skills Labs are available, outside of scheduled class sessions, for independent practice and skills training by all nursing students. Between both rooms there are eight hospital beds, each equipped with wall-mounted oto/opthalmoscopes, two VCRs with TV sets, four exam tables with wall-mounted oto/opthalmoscopes, eight networked computer stations, and a variety of useable medical supplies, informational posters, and models. It is important to note that only equipment that is out and visible may be used by students practicing in the Labs. Students are not permitted to search for equipment in the cabinets and closets, but are instead asked to request help from the CERC desk, which may be reached from the telephone in room 1W307. The Skills Labs may be accessed during CERC hours only, and students may only enter having first checked in at the CERC desk with proper University ID. For more information regarding the use and conditions of the Skills Labs, please see the Skills Lab Usage Policy.
