3 credits ( 3 didactic credits )

Prerequisite:
Ph.D and MS-PhD students in Health Practice Research or instructor permission.

Description:

This course examines the various epistemological debates about science in current health care literature. These debates reflect different ways of knowing and arise out of different philosophical traditions, such as rationalism, empiricism, historicism, and organicism. An understanding of these debates informs the discussion about the nature of science and theory. Different approaches to concept development are explored in the context of their philosophical foundations. Students will apply the process of concept development to a specific area of interest.
