Donna Tortoretti,

Donna Tortoretti graduated from Alfred University with a dual baccalaureate degree in nursing and clinical psychology, and from the University of Rochester with a Master of Science in Health Systems Leadership. She has completed graduate level courses in business, entrepreneurship, and biotechnology as it relates to population health. She began her career as a neuropsychiatric nurse and case manager at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital. In the late 1990’s Donna was chosen to lead the Community Nursing Center at the University of Rochester, School of Nursing. She grew the business to $3.8 million in 2006. The success of the Community Nursing Center contributed to the University of Rochester receiving a Kauffman Award for Entrepreneurship, from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, in 2004. It was renamed the Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship in 2005, and Donna was appointed Chief Executive Officer. She was also a cofounder of Health Checkpoint, a nationally recognized health and wellness initiative that combines innovative application of technology, nursing, and proactive health strategies.

Donna has presented nationally and internationally, is the co-author of numerous articles, and has contributed to several books. Her areas of interest include psychiatric care of cognitively impaired patients, case management, entrepreneurial models of health services, academic-business partnerships, innovative improvements to health care systems, and cost analysis outcomes.

Patricia Chiverton is Dean and Professor of the University of Rochester School of Nursing and Vice President of Strong Health Nursing. She graduated from Central Missouri University with a BS in Nursing, and from the University of Rochester with an MS in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, and an EdD, with a cognate in Higher Education Administration, from the Warner School of Education. Her areas of interest are Faculty Practice and Nursing Entrepreneurship. Dean Chiverton created the Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship, first of its kind in an academic health science center. She is a partner in Health Checkpoint, a start-up company that grew from the Center.
